For Internet Explorer users, the easiest way to download these files is to right click on the links and select "Save Target As..."
Please note that these are large files! Users with low connection speeds may have difficulty downloading these files without a download manager. I may make them available on a CD at some point in the future, but this is not available at present. Please also note that they are supplied "as is" - they play without problems on my machine and media player, but I make no guarantee that they will work on other systems. I cannot offer any technical assistance I'm afraid. Finally, these videos are copyright Simon Robinson. You are welcome to copy them for your own use, but please do not reproduce them or link directly to the source file without my permission.
Request for help - These files seem to be extremely large compared with others I've seen on the net, of similar quality. If anyone has any tips or advice of how to make these files smaller, without noticeably reducing the quality, I'd be glad to hear it. The originals are on 8mm digital tape.
Wallpapers
PC users using Internet Explorer can set background wallpaper by clicking on the appropriate desktop size. When the image opens, right-click on it and select "Set as Background". Users of other computers and internet browsers should consult their documentation.

5690 Leander at York, hauling the Scarborough Spa Express
In the early 1980's British Rail ran a regular series of steam specials in North Yorkshire. Known as the Scarborough Spa Express, the trains used preserved locomotives, and ran from York round the Harrogate - Leeds - York circle and on to the seaside resort of Scarborough, before returning to York along the same route. On Tuesday, 2nd August, 1983, the train of nine coaches was hauled by LMS Jubilee No. 5690, Leander. The following excerpt is of the train leaving Harrogate for York, on the final leg of the journey.
This 49 second recording is available in two formats:-
mp3 - 389K
wav - 1,075K, but slightly better quality.
See the video clips above for information about downloading files.
A 90 minute recording of the journey, together with other steam journeys, is available from:-

My thanks go to Air-Rail Recordings for allowing me to use this excerpt.
Coming soon... (as soon as I can find which tape it's on!)
