At the end of July, Leander was apparently
still in the workshops in Bury, waiting for repainting. According
to Steam Railway magazine, it is hoped to operate a series of
circular tours with this loco in the near future. These will
start from Carnforth, and work via Preston, Blackburn, Hellifield
and Clapham back to Carnforth. However, it will need to be run in
on the East Lancs Railway before it gains a main line
certificate. It is also reported that Leander may be
attending the Crewe Works open day on 31 May-1 June next year.

Galatea has been moved to the West Coast
Railway Company at Carnforth for restoration - this will be one
of the most complex restoration jobs to be attempted on a
preserved locomotive, requiring the casting of two new driving
wheels, as the originals were cut when the loco derailed at Barry
Scrapyard. I took the following photo at Tyseley in May 2000,
which gives an indication of the work required.

7 June 2002
The news from the East Lancashire Railway today is that Leander will not now be
running for the gala weekend. However, the sheds will be open to
the public, and they hope to have Leander in steam.
6 May 2002
Leander is due to be in steam for the East
Lancashire Railway gala on 8 & 9 June.

These photos were taken at the East Lancashire Railway on 26
January, and show the progress on Leander:

20 January 2002
The East
Lancashire Railway is holding
a special steam weekend on 26 & 27 January, when the shed
